Jeffco DA News Release Issued Friday

On February 15, 2002, District Attorney Dave Thomas was presented with an affidavit requesting an investigation into a specific expenditure of Jefferson County funds.

On October 30, 2001, Jefferson County Commissioners Michelle Lawrence and Richard Sheehan, approved money to be spent for services that had been performed for building design, septic design and water exploration services relative to a proposed juvenile sex offender group home facility. (Commissioner Patricia Holloway voted "nay" on this resolution for expending such funds).

The allegations of malfeasance and official misconduct contained in the affidavit were based upon a belief that funds used to pay for these group home services were not available in the adopted 2001 Jefferson County Budget.

While there was not a specific line-item appropriation for spending for this purpose, the money was appropriated in a general fund and spent from such fund. After thoroughly reviewing the applicable case law, Colorado statutes, and factual setting, District Attorney Dave Thomas has concluded that there was no malfeasance or criminal conduct on the part of either Commissioner Lawrence or Commissioner Sheehan based upon the expenditure

I was surprised to wake up and find less than an inch of snow on the desk (actually, not the desk, but the deck) this morning.

Rode the early bus (5:15 a.m.) in and it almost got stuck trying to get up the small hill next to the Hot Dog in Aspen Park. Took about five minutes of spinning wheels to go one block for the turn to the Park-N-Ride.

The rest of the trip was uneventful. Definitely more snow in Denver that up where I live.

I think the Weather Service will be about 15 inches off on that 18-inch forecast from Thursday.

Yowee. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for our area, with 8 to 14 inches of snow expected through Friday.

Thursday night lows will be in the single digits, with winds causing blowing and drifiting snow and 30 below wind chills.

This sounds like a serious winter storm, so don't take it lightly.

A sad development out of Golden Wednesday afternoon...

The top administrator for the Evergreen Fire Protection District was sentenced to two years in jail after he admitted having sex with a minor.

Brad Ruder, 42, will also serve at least 20 years probation, and will have to register as a sex offender.

He's supposed to report to the Jefferson County Jail by next Wednesday.

What a pleasure it is to live the "banana belt." We received less than an inch of snow in our area, while points east and west got considerably more.

The weather can also vary considerably when driving the 285 corridor. Saturday morning, for instance, Denver was socked in while we enjoyed sunny skies!

There are many "banana belts" in the state: microclimates where less snow falls than in surrounding areas. The reasons are varied. In our case, we're in the middle of a range of mountains and foothills that "capture" much of the snow before it can fall on us.

If you're familiar with Wyoming's Great Basin, think of the Pine, Colorado area as a miniature version.

What a difference a day makes. After record-high temperatures Saturday, bone-chilling lows were forecast for Sunday night.

An arctic front will move into the area Sunday evening, dropping temperatures and bringing some snow.

We'll have cold temps and the chance of snow all week.
