I got a heads up about these meetings from the Pinecam team working on the webcam at the Bailey Library. From Facebook:

Fiber to the Home!

Attention Pine Junction, Bailey, Shawnee, and Grant Residents…High Speed Fiber has arrived in Bailey! You may have seen some of the installation work being done on poles and underground along Hwy 285 and toward Deer Creek Elementary. Fiber is now presently installed at a Carrier Neutral Facility near the Bailey Library and is actively serving the library with Internet Service.

If you are fed up with the latency and caps imposed on Satellite service, fed up with spotty and limited coverage of Wireless service, fed up with rollercoaster DSL speeds, and want to see Fiber-To-The-Home become a reality, you NEED to be at one of these meetings! The providers will only listen if there is a public DEMAND and OUTCRY for improved service! Make your voice heard by attending one of the following public meetings facilitated by Park County Commissioner Mike Brazell at Platte Canyon Fire Protection District Station #2 (153 Delwood Drive, Bailey, CO 80421):

Wednesday, February 21st at 6:30pm
Saturday, February 24th at 10:00am

If you would like to receive a link for a web broadcast of the meetings, please send an E-Mail to the following address:

I cannot help but find it very unlikely that the combination of density and demand are going to be sufficient to make it feasible for Joe Public to get FTTH in Bailey. I would love to be proven wrong, though.

If nothing else, strong public interest could start a framework web that we could tap into and vastly improve present alternatives.

I'm very hopeful that there will be a great turnout from the Bailey community to get good information about the possibilities of fiber to the home because if Bailey can embrace this innovation, then other rural communities will have a trailblazer to follow! It seems as though many of our part-time residents would love to work from home if the broadband capacity were available, and what a huge advantage this would be for businesses. It's not an easy or simple process, but at least the infrastructure is in place so it truly is possible!

Thank you! I am just trying to help get the word out. It seems like this is an optimal point in time since the infrastructure exists; the decisions to be made are up to the communities in Bailey.

While the fiber being put in does provide some opportunities to extend service to more areas and provide higher capacities an earlier poster is likely correct on the reality of that fiber extending all the way to the home. There are many real opportunities to improve service in the area and the fiber certainly plays a part in that process.
