I have been in my house in Woodside for about 5 years. Just about from the beginning of my time here, I've noticed very small black dots/spots in odd places. Some examples - my pillow covers, on clothing, on the bottom of the tub, even my skin...etc. They are very small, almost as if someone touched the tip of a ballpoint pen to these surfaces. They dont occur very frequently, I might see one like 1x a week.

I've never really thought much of them - just thought it was some sediment(s) from the well water. The well water was tested when I took ownership 5 years ago and passed with flying colors. My fiance has started growing more concerned about them. She read online somewhere that these black dots/spots are a symptom of a deteriorating hot water heater - which is much more serious situation for us - as we are consuming the water daily.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced these black dots?

Have you drained your hot water heater? It is my understanding that one should do this periodically to drain sediment that accumulates at the bottom. Youtube should have something to help you do that or call a plumber to do it but you will have to pay.

Do you have a sediment filter on your well system, and if so how long since you have changed it?Are the black dots shiny, almost like glitter?
For example, I can tell that my well is screened where an Amphibolite vein permeates the Pike's Peak Granite because I recognize the sediment type, and I know this is where fractures can occur for a good-producing well.

This may not be the case, but I get spots, as you have described, on many things during the summer. They are from flies that leave feces when they land. It is disgusting and I've tried many things to keep them out of our home as they've dirtied blinds, counters, window sills, even furniture. Ugh!

we have two LARGE (2 feet long) pleated filters on our well - 5 micron.
Ace Hardware has a large selection. If you don't have a filter, you should.

If you have a filter system, it can mean your filter needs to be changed. I always get reddish brown dots.
