Great video!

I am very interested in motorsports history....any chance that the "very secret intake manifold setup" can be revealed now that it is probably irrevelant?
It is very much still relevant in that the RMVR vintage racing sanction is still very much alive.

It was steeped in fifty years of experimenting and rubber-meets-the-road testing. The intake on a Volkswagen air-cooled car is a tube from the carb to the head. That's all. But what the air DOES in that tube is the experiment. Similar to Hemi experiments, various measurements and boring out and filling took place. The exact positions of those bores and fills remain secret.

There's still a strong contingent of FV's running in the SCCA. One of the larger classes in fact. FV is about the cheapest class to get into and be competitive. They're very easy on tires which is a big plus. Some people can go an entire season on one set. My car goes through between 4 and 6 sets. At $1100 per set it's by far my biggest expense year to year.
