Now, I know most of you may to too young to have been in this parade. However, some that are even older then me.....as hard to believe as that may be.

I just put several photos of a parade in Bailey from what appears to be around 1960 or even the late 1950s. Perhaps some of you were in the parade, or you know someone who was.

If you have any information on this parade, send it along. I would love to add your captions to the photos.

Here is the link to the webpage:

While on the Historical Society website, explore some other new features - maps and photos.

Jim.

Very impressive parade! I liked the picture where the man is trying to get the mule to move and is pulling on his halter. But all the images are so interesting. Thank you.

Poor Mule, his trousers were ill fitting and he was getting chaffed... ;)

Its amazing how not much has changed in way of the buildings. China village and the now Knotty Pine are very recognizable and I believe I see what is now the Sasquatch Outpost.

I was just an infant in NJ when these were taken. Its heart warming to see 4-H and VFW alive and well and Glen Isle was in its Hay Day and is now back in business. I bet the new proprieters would love to see that photo!

The Girl Scouts had a float as well - good old-fashioned activities during that time period.

I just noticed the Entriken Cabin in its original location in a couple of the Parade photos.

Yep, pretty bad all right. Almost as bad as it was in the 1940s.

Back in the late fifties and early sixties the biggest event in Bailey was the annual Horse Show, typically held on July 4th. Here's an article from the June 29, 1961, Fairplay Flume:

Yes, I remember several of those parades that my brother and I were in with the "Bell Hop" from Bell Oil. After the parade, my grandfather and dad would go and help serve the food at the fire house and then we would all gather at the horse arena, which was located where the winery is being rebuilt, and enjoy the horse show.
