We moved to this area in 1988. There used to be a small strip mall across 285 from the Old Safeway Center. This was before that intersection was redone; there was a traffic light on 285. This strip mall, with a dirt parking lot, had a restaurant, a video store (I think), and a wood stove store (I think). Does anyone remember the name of the restaurant? I remember it had a lot of large windows facing 285.

Thanks for helping a fading memory (now where did I put my keys?)

The HiLander Inn-I never did have a chance to eat there.

That's it. Thanks! Does anyone know of a web site that might have photos of our area from that time period? I have found photos from 100 or more years ago, but not from 30 years ago.

Looks like there was a thread about this a few years ago: viewtopic.php?f=107&t=108547

What I remember about the Highlander was German food and that their septic system always gave off an odor.

Wasn't it called Desperados in it's last incarnation?

Yes, the restaurant went from Hi-Lander, to Des Alpes, to Desperados, to misc businesses not related to food (they had major water and septic issues as mentioned above.)

Des Alpes was Hans Wolf, who had mainly German cuisine and the coffee was great.

Seven years ago The historical society had a front-page article with the postcard picture.

I think after desperados it was Buck Stop or Bull stop or something like that and then it was all gone!

Highlander. Husband and I spent a lot of Sunday’s there. Football game would be on, we would sit in the corner booth and we would play triominos, eating nachos and having some drinks. Loved it.

Had a bad case of food poisoning from eating there on night because of the septic problem. But only once. There were a lot of folks that got sick that night. :barf:

I also got sick. Husband and kids didn't. I only had a sip of the water and my husband drank a whole glass. I think a wedding party all got sick also.
