i had them and lost them too, but this year they are back - i have 4 that regularly feed on my deck along with 2 city tree squirrels - one is silver and the other 3 are black - they too, are in varying shades of 'two-tone' - i always thought it had to do with shedding off their winter coats as the head and top part is short and sleek hairs, the bottom hairs are much longer and fluffier -

So good to hear they are back, at least at your place WG. Since I've moved here I only saw one around me, but no more.

So where did the fox squirrel come from, they must have started in some forest somewhere? Sad to hear about what Mrs. BGR said, I had no idea, but good to know.

I can echo these observations; I have seemingly had more Abert sightings this summer than the past several summers combined.
