Elk, elk, elk - probably a 100 in the open space east of the old auction house, Monday around 3:30. It was awesome. Picture isn't too great walking along Hwy 285 and I couldn't get ALL of them in it. It was a real sight though!

Lucky you to see that many elk at once! Where is the "old auction house"?

Looks like houndlover is referring to the open area north of the building formerly known as Reggie's Will O' the Wisp. Long after Reggie's, for a brief time someone tried to run an auction out of there. Currently, Mtn. View Waste is using the parking area for storage.

OK, thanks I know where that is. I wish the elk had come down through Elk Creek.

Been a long time since seeing them.

Why does an elk cross the road? I saw a large herd of elk on Wandcrest 1Feb.

I miss having Elk. They used to come through in spring and fall. I could hear their mating calls from my deck. I didn't realize the day would come when they changed their route. You are lucky!

Ditto aspenleaf, I miss those buggling bulls. Its becoming apparent that the elk change habits. Growing up in Evergreen even though it was less populated at that time, we didn't see elk, now they can be seen roaming all over the Evergreen/Bergen Park areas.

The first few years after I moved into my home 17 years ago, I always heard the bugles of the Bulls mating calls. I loved hearing them. It sent chills up my spine. It's been at least 10 years since I've seen Elk here on top of the mountain; they used to be frequent visitors.

It's great they are wintering near by. Perhaps they'll stay throughout the year.

Thank you for bringing attention to the herd's location and for the photos.

When we lived in Evergreen circa 1982, there were always herds of Elk in Big Elk Meadows, right across the highway from Hiwan CC. Once in awhile we see them at the cabin on Deer Creek, but not very often.
