My wife and I went up the Abyss Trail earlier this summer and want to go back when the Aspens get their fall colors. Does anyone know if they have started to change up there yet?

I was up on the back side of Burning Bear trail last weekend and was surprised by how much color there was for Labor Day. I suspect the next 2 weeks there will be significant color.

Rosalie is getting a fair amount of color. I would think Guanella would be too.

A friend drove the pass labor day weekend and also said minimal color only at the higher elevations.

The peak color along Duck creek is generally within days of the autumn equinox.

Many of the patches of aspens in Colorado that are changing early are the areas that experienced the worse drought conditions this summer. Conserving moisture in the root systems in order to survive the winter, they are shedding leaves now (early).

Channel 9 had a segment last night about the changing leaves along Guanella Pass. It looked at though trees were changing sporadically. But the areas where the leaves had changed, it was beautiful.

Just a thought, but no reason why you can't go this weekend and next. I've done that many times with my Goldens weather leafing or flower searching. Appears the weather will be great this weekend; never know what the next weekend's weather will be.

We went to Boreas Pass on Friday. I would say about 1/2 the leaves had changed. We saw yellow, orange, and a few red aspens. Some trees had already lost most of their leaves.

I was up there this weekend. Leaves are starting to change quickly, especially up high. Some stands here and there. I'm guessing this weekend thru next should be peaking and should last awhile barring a hard freeze or storms.

We ventured up there today and the colors were quite nice if you hiked up the trail past the first creek crossing at about 2.2 miles. Lots of color with a little green and a little gone.
