Does anyone know what this bird is? We've been seeing it visit the bird bowl off and on for a few weeks now, sometimes with a pal/mate. He is about the same size as the mountain jays, maybe a tad bigger. Thanks!

Yes, it's a Clark's Nutcracker. We call them camp robbers.

Thanks! Cool...named after William Clark of Lewis and Clark. The wiki photo looks just like it, unlike the one in my 'Birds of Colorado' which shows a purplish back and a smaller beak.

Yep! It's a Clark Nutcracker. And, wow do they get boisterous when the food block, bird feeder and peanuts are not out for them to eat, lol. They tap on my sky windows, as if to say, "Hay, aren't you forgetting somethig?" If the food is not out as soon as they want it.

It is a Clark's Nutcracker, named by Clark ( as in Lewis and Clark). It is not a Grey Jay, which is sometimes called a Camp Robber.

We had one of these show up yesterday at our feeders. First time ever. They are big birds, bigger than a Stellers Jay. I guess the Clark's Nutcrackers have moved into our area for a change and wonder if it's because it's been so much warmer than our average December.
