Where are you located up here? I sure hope we can see some of those beautiful birds. We feed the birds year round but have not seen these beauties!

wildGoose2 - I think we must share some of these birds, as we had a small number yesterday, despite having tons of black oil seed and water out all day. I'm just glad they have somewhere to eat when conditions are like this. They really are totally amazing.

06258 - We live at the top of Deer Creek Valley, 7 miles west of the top of Crow Hill. Our elevation is 9,000 feet. Ms. Goose lives closer to Pine Junction and not quite so high. Most bird feeders I know have never had them, so I guess they just have to find you. Once they do, the flock seems to never forget. WildGoose2 sometimes has hundreds and hundreds at a time. Who else out there in Pinecamland has had Rosy Finches?

We have them, not as many as wildgoose, but a lot!! I also must have had over 100 evening grosbeaks this morning, and three gray nutcrackers plus the rosy finches, pinesiskins, nuthatches and stellar jays. I have gone out twice to refill a few feeders. I also feed suet, and do what Willy does, warm them up and replace during the day.
I feed black sunflower seed mixed with safflower seed and finch mixed seed. I live above the 43/47 split. I too am at 9000 feet.

A few days without Rosy Finches left us with our lower lips hanging out...
We were hoping that all of them had not thrown themselves on the mercy of wildGoose2!

Yesterday and today they were back in a flock well over 100 and went into a feeding frenzy loading up for the cold weather of the last two days.
Here is what I call "The Ultimate Rosy Finch Portrait!"

The white specks on the image are a few snowflakes among the many that decorated our deck all day!

Enjoy!
