How about these, they have a membrane that appears to cover gills

The Denver Botanic Gardens had classes to pick and identify mushrooms at one time. You ought to check for a class. I've been hunting mushrooms for almost 50 years, and even if you do a spore test to see if the fungi is safe to eat, you can still poison yourself. For instance, never mix alcohol with wild mushrooms, and if your body chemistry is off the day you eat a wild mushroom, you can get very sick. Years ago a group of pickers were picking on Guanella Pass, one of the guys had a reaction to the mushrooms. Everyone had the same food, but that poor guy is dead.

With this topic and Mr. BGR's photos, I'm pretty sure they are the Hawks Wing.

:yikes: CDC and thanks for the info on the classes. If I loved mushrooms, I would definitely go to the class. Was just curious because they were so unique looking and they are so soft, like felt.

Yep, mtree, was pretty sure, but I would never go with anything until verified. Anyway, underneath had the gills, so I think they are the same as the ones I posted, they are just older and more flattened out.

We have a ton of mushrooms growing, as everyone else probably does. Most are ones I always see, the large white ones. Then I saw these just outside the house, Has anyone seen these before or know what they are?

those look one of the agaricus varieties. many are good edibles, but again, do not eat unless you are 100% certain.
you would be better of with ebola than eating some of the amanitas
