We happened to be in Evergreen a few days ago and came across cow Elk browsing on the shrubs along a road.
Across the road we saw 2 elk calves in hiding in the dense brush.
Out comes the camera!

"Hey, Mom! There's a man over there!"
Image

"I think he is OK but you better move along into the brush!"
Image

"Didn't I tell you to stay in the brush?"
Image
"I tried - but he keeps moving!"

"OK! Get behind me while I call all the others!"
Image

"This "day care" gig has a lot of responsibility go with it."

That's BGR's version and he's sticking to it!
Thanks for watching!

I love it! In the third picture, he looks so defiant.

Your photos are always really engaging. :D

Beautiful shots BGR! I see a lot of Deer Fawns but it seems to me that Elk keep their little ones a bit better hidden from us.

I don't think I've ever seen a baby elk!

I've been fortunate to see the "Elk Day Care" at RMNP. All the new mothers stood in a circle to keep the fawns corralled within. It was interesting and cute to watch. Especially when one of the fawns decided it was time to go exploring and would try to sneak away (yeah right, right under all the Moms watch, lol). Mom cow would squeal loudly and the fawn would return deeper into the bunch of fawns.

Even when the heard returns to the valley for the winter, I’ve viewed the Daycares (yes, there were several) moving as 1 entity within the heard. The mothers on the outside and the fawns in the middle. It was fascinating to watch.

The pics are beautiful. Very lucky to have been able to view Mom and her new fawns.

Thank you for sharing the photos and creative text as well. :wiggle: :D
