We just had to go back to Rabbit "Ear" Pass to see if we could find more of our very favorite flower in the West!
This will take you to see those flowers PLUS a few of the sights in the Steamboat Springs area.

Just a short reminder that the spectacles of nature are not always as permanent as we might wish!
Image
Freeze-Thaw cycles can be tough on mere ancient volcanic rock formations!
We saw the "Rabbit Ear" designation in the Steamboat Pilot newspaper.

Up on the east side of the pass in mid to late May you might be treated to a spectacle of our favorite flower!
Image
Of course - this is the Glacier Lily!
When it sprouts into bloom, there can be thousands of them decorating the hillsides.
Image
You might just drive right past these yellow beauties covering the hillsides next to US-40 thinking they are just dandelions.

...and miss this?
No Way!

I once thought that Rabbit Ears Pass was the only place for Glacier lilies.
Wrong!
We have actually found them on McClure and Ohio Pass roads just west of Crested Butte and on Schofield Pass north of Crested Butte.
One never knows where such beauty might be found until you get lucky by continuing to LOOK!

Here is one of my favorite photos of Glacier lilies taken on Ohio Pass Road just 1/4 mile south of McClure Pass Road.

That doe is probably getting ready to dance with a Glacier Lily in her mouth!
This was taken in 2016!

Going back to the Steamboat trip featured here, we found a Purple Fringe blooming on one of the turnouts on the west side of Rabbit Ears Pass.

In the same spot this is Larkspur in full bloom.

Just above the Larkspur the Serviceberry bushes were in full bloom.

Looking right through the Serviceberry bushes was this view of Stagecoach Lake State Park.

Virtually in the middle of Steamboat Springs you can take a drive only a few miles north to Fish Creek Falls.

The upper trail leads to this view of the falls.

Along the easy trail to the falls we found this strange bloom in progress.
Image
The Park guide identified the bloom as the seed pod of Glacier Lily!
WOW!
Down on the lower trail we were able to get to the base of Fish Creek Falls.
Image
The "flow" here is about 1,400 cubic feet/second!
It is runoff time and Fish Creek is a primary water supply for Steamboat Springs.

In our tradition of taking "Old Folks Selfies" when we see them, here is our latest!

Thanks for following on the "wrap-up" of our search for Glacier Lilies and other sights!
We wish you get to go there sometime in the future!

Thanks for tagging along with us....

I have never seen a glacier lily! They are indeed beautiful. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
