We've had a flock of bright yellow American Goldfinches at the tube feeder and water dishes and a Chipping Sparrow
on the platform feeder. When I went outside, I could hear the Chipping Sparrows singing (chipping?) away in a nearby tree but I only saw the one, so far.
I love it when the migrators roll through.

The local (summer residents) Evening Grosbeaks have started beak fighting, so they will be nesting soon. :O) The winter flock moved on a month ago. Still have several pairs of Red Crossbills. Guessing they are nesting nearby as well. I'll keep an eye on the Goldfinches - they have never nested here.

I saw what I think was either a grackle or a cow bird at my feeder this morning. The bird was black, with light gray striping on it's wings and a brownish chest. He only stayed a few minutes so I didn't have time to get a picture. We never saw a bird like this before at the feeder.

Here is a "follow-on" for Mrs. BGR's post above:

We got a peek at an American Goldfinch feasting away from the tube feeder.

Here is the Chipping Sparrow on the tray out a south facing window.

And - a Red Crossbill (male) in an Aspen tree out the south window..

...Just a couple more...

More American Goldfinches!
Beautiful and spectacular color!
Image
Three at the same time!
Image
Look closely at the mid-level feeding holes to see a layer of nyger thistle - which finches can't resist!

Here is a Pine Grosbeak!
We don't see many of them.
Image
This must be a male who is still "changing" into breeding colors!

Thanks for looking!

Stunning! My favorite is the elusive Goldfinch. So elusive that I've never seen one at my house.

Today's drop ins include 2 Mourning Doves, about 50 Red-Winged Blackbirds and 2 Brewer's Blackbirds. The snow has everybody moving around pretty good....

In the last few days we have had a pair of Mourning Doves on the property!
Image
What a lovely pair!
They have been sitting on that exact same aspen limb in the snow since at least 4pm!

A few years ago the male was left alone when his mate disappeared for unknown reasons.
Last year he was back with a mate.
It looks like that relationship is still working!

We wish them all the success in the world!

What gorgeous images! I can see details on each bird that I cannot see with just my eyes, ever. Thanks for sharing, I don't get such variety of birds at my feeders and appreciate you sharing your various visitors.

I am so jealous! The goldfinches and the Crossbill have only stopped here once in the past three years. My yard has been full of Black birds and cow birds the past few days. There are Pine grosbeaks, morning doves, wood peckers. I really need to upgrade my feeders. Most of mine are all open flat homemade things. Thank you so much for sharing all of your beautiful pictures. I’m still jealous.

The Doves are so pretty with the snowflakes flying. Great capture!

Such beautiful photos! I don't get birds like these anymore, but I did have a bald eagle circling over my poor little kitty the other day. Only saw it once, probably on its way to Fairplay--or back to the flatlands given our snowy weather!
