I have a minute and a half video of this lovely little treasure working a pot of petunias on my deck.
I was able to edit the video small enough to email and to share on FB but I have no clue how to share it here.
So a couple of stills will have to do .

They are cool creatures, aren't they?
When I clicked on the post, on my phone, I thought the topic was "hummingbird math". The eyes aren't what they used to be.

GREAT Capture of the Hummingbird moth!
Stills are outstanding but the video clip is beyond that!

:coffee screen:

I wonder if hummingbirds can do math?
Flying back to the nest to teach the kids the hummingbird said, "I went to 2 feeders for a 1/2 minute each, drinking at a rate of 0.2ml per second... how much did I drink?"

:on topic:
I've not seen any of the hummingbird moths this year. Their are indeed cool (albeit weird) creatures.

Since I took it on my phone the phone only allows so much of it to go out. I snipped off a good part to share. There’s lots more good stuff then what I’ve already sent out.
So I’ll try and send a few shorts and see what you can do with them.
Thanks Ang!

Great pictures, thankyou! I sat out last night on deck and watched those quick little critters go from flower to flower. Then get chased off by an irate hummingbird once in a while. So fun to watch.

Hyles lineata, also known as the white-lined sphinx, is a moth of the family Sphingidae. They are sometimes erroneously referred to as the hummingbird moth....

Great pictures, JMiller. Regardless of their true name, they are so fascinating to watch. I had one last year but haven't seen any this year.

I am a little confused when typically correct information concerning plants and wildlife are well received here. Thanks.

We had one on our petunias a couple of days ago. Yay, Hummingbird moth, or wait is that a Sphinx? Aaa, who cares right now, happily cool!
Love the photos!
