Post subject:  8/31 - Puppy in the road by Santa Maria

This has been bothering me for three days now. Wednesday afternoon, by Santa Maria, a "puppy" was in the middle of the southbound lane. The puppy was not moving. A man, who appeared to be the owner, was running alongside the road to where the puppy was and a woman was standing next to an SUV trying to slow people down. I'm guessing the pup may have jumped or fallen out the window of the vehicle. I am hoping it survived. If not, my heart goes out to the puppy and its owners.

What did the pup look like?

From what I could tell, it had short hair and was light tan in color. The way it was laying was "possum like"...on its side. I didn't see any blood so hopefully the pup survived. I saw a CSP car heading that way (coincidence I'm sure) so maybe he was able to stop traffic until the pup was taken to safety. I do hope the owners post something positive. Things like this just break my heart!

If you have a window rolled down too far, a dog can get thrown out of the car if the driver has to suddenly swerve, or throw on the breaks.

Update on the little dog. And a good one! I stopped at the Crow Hill Vet clinic this morning to see how the dog is doing. No one came forward to claim him so he's now at a shelter and is ready for adoption. He's about 4 years old, not a puppy, and appears to be in good shape. Other than a scraped up nose, thankfully no broken bones or cuts. Many of us hope he gets a loving home. He deserves one!

Whoops! I neglected to say how I found out he was taken to the Crow Hill Vet. I was given a link (FB) for lost and found dogs by a gal who thought a dog on the site may be the one I saw in the road. Low and behold...there he was! I was thrilled to know he's alive and now doing well. The gal at the clinic said he's a sweet little guy and is sure he'll have new home soon...if he doesn't already.

I assume the vet isn't holding him. Do you know where he is now? How long would he have to wait to be put up for adoption?

You're right. He's not at the clinic anymore. His injuries were minor and went to a shelter to be adopted. He very well could have been adopted right away. Since I don't think Crow Hill Vet can share that info I'm hoping he has a new loving home. That little dog deserves one!
