Wow, for herefishyfishy to go off immediately by writing his opinion that anyone who voted other than the way he/she voted is uneducated, stupid and ignorant is inflammatory and doesn't do anything to further civil discourse. Too bad, because we Americans need to talk and solve some serious problems.

The other side has been just as bad as well! It is very hard to talk politics anymore because of the personal attacks and lack of proper debate skills and respect.

So nobody has answered me as far as the taxes that they are always complaining about.

It has been discussed ad nauseam in multiple political threads recently and it should be pretty obvious by now.

I always find that people on here complain about how much taxes they pay, it's always the generalization, So what taxes are you talking about.

Ok, for those not paying attention!
There is Income tax both federal and state.
FICA and medicare tax, if you're self employed, you pay double for yourself and half of all your employees.
and the small business owner also has unemployment insurance tax, and workers compensation payments could be mentioned. Actually it's you, the consumer, that pay these taxes when you purchase the goods or service.
There is the tax paid for every gallon of gasoline or diesel you purchase
there are taxes on you're phone, TV service, power bill.
For every single item you purchase, you pay a tax, there is the sales tax, you also pay the corporate tax!
You pay tax on your car, motorcycle and other vehicles,
you pay taxes on your home, or the landlords taxes are paid with a portion of your rent.
You pay a tax to enter a lot of federal and state parks.
I'm sure there are lot more that I've missed, others can fill in the blanks.
Now we have a governor who also wants to expand the social give aways! More kindergarten and preschool, AKA free daycare, and more free health care, which isn't free!
Please, some one, tell me where all the money is going to come from? He will need to add more people to the government payroll, which are just more net tax takers! At some point soon, we're going to have more tax takers than tax payers!
How does that possibly work?

So really what you're saying is you just want to "take", but not give any thing back!

How do you know that Scalawagy is "taking"? And where did Scalawagy say s/he did not want to pay any taxes for anything? You asked about "the taxes that they are always complaining about", s/he replied with a long list. We pay taxes on just about everything, except for the air we breathe.

Maybe Scalawagy would like to see the "true takers" give something back for what they are taking.

true takers: able bodied and mentally healthy people on disability, medicaid, food stamps, welfare. i.e. those who are well enough to work, earn money, and take care of themselves but game the system instead.

And please, do not try to say senior people on Medicare are "takers". They paid their whole life into Medicare, pay a yearly deductible, and must either have supplement and prescription policies or Medicare advantage policy or pay 20% of Part B costs. Medicare is not "free".

Or the retired people receiving Social Security. Many who paid into Society Security all their lives could have more money in retirement if their "contributions" to Social Security were put into a private annuity instead of being redistributed to some who did not pay into the "system" as much.

Said like a true conservative - Privatize Social Security and pick on people who are in need. You're one of the true takers. You drive on roads paid for through taxes. You use police when you have an emergency. You call the fire department when you have an emergency and don't forget when you call an ambulance how that is funded. Assuming you went to school (assumption on my part) that too was funded by taxes. Infrastructure that you rely on (Electric, Phone and Gas) were also paid for and maintained through taxation. I can go on on..........

The government does not make/supply anything - it is my and other people's taxes. You may thank us.

And you'd still be wrong and prove you don't have a clue what you're talking about. But don't let that stop you. Progressives never let facts get in the way of their ignorance.

Even HRC said you can't be civil with someone who wants to destroy everything you believe in.

Indeed, daisypusher. The government does not produce anything, it takes.

Where did I say either of those? Perhaps you did not closely read what I wrote:

These are not "people in need" who are on the various programs. I did not say no one ever needs some assistance from the government or private charities.

And where did I say "Privatize Social Security" although I think that would be a very good thing. I said I did not appreciate the distribution of wealth that Social Security is. If you look back at the history of Social Security, it was never intended to be a retirement plan for all Americans.

Where, in your world Last Light, does personal responsibility come in?

And yes I am a true conservative and proud of it.
