Wondering how folks are finding the ability of the Prius up here during moderate snow. Still planning to keep a Pilot for more vigorous times.

Not a Prius owner, but from what I know depending on tire wear, I would guess they'd do pretty well in the snow. The battery on the bottom lowers the center of gravity and that provides excellent traction.

I Have seen every kind of car/truck/suv in ditches, I think it depends on driving skills, and tires. My ex-mother in law drives one and has never had any issues, she has driven it all around state in all kinds of weather, if there is a will, there is a way, is what she always says, front wheel drive drove me crazy, I call them the soccer mom's in great big suv's that drive so slow and stop, it's hard for some front wheel drive cars since you have to keep moving, haven't had one since my infinity couple yrs ago, I now drive Nissan Rogue, great car not in all wheel drive until you slip a bit, then it locks in, so you can imagine I get great gas mileage

Thanks guys, we learned about winter tires our first year up here, definitely always use them now, and thank goodness are both pretty good drivers, so we will have those things going for us.

best solution is to buy winter tires (BLIZZAK or NOKIAN HAKKAPELIITTA) mounted and balanced on wheels and switch them out each spring.

Hell I drove a rear wheel drive '89 Mercedes 560SL roadster the first two winters up here and I worked down the hill. It was a white knuckle experience but I never spun out or ran off the road. I then bought a beater Subaru and just swap cars now :)

I just looked at a picture of the 2018 Prius. It should be named "Toyota Transformer" instead. :scatter:

I have a friend with a Prius who asked to borrow my shovel in a snow situation where she was stuck. But, it was deep snow and she was high centered. If you stay within the vehicle's limits height-wise, it's probably good with the right studded snowtires. Don't have a Prius myself, but I use Cooper studded tires.

My BFF has lived at the top of Conifer Mountain for 15+ years and has had two Priuses. She has had no problem in the snow.
