Lived here all of my life...
Attend meetings
Write the board in Fairplay
Stand and be heard

I think that our NEW neighborhood stores should respect the wishes of our small community. One of my huge concerns is not only the lighting, but the garbage. The garbage that continuously litters 43A and 285 is from L&J. They have done a much better job trying to keep on top of it, but the darn tourists deposit their bags of garbage INSTEAD of packing it all the way back to their own homes. Then the birds pick the bags open...
Let’s work together, by not just turning a blind eye to those that are dropping off their garbage, lets say something to them, and ensure that they do not leave it there. L&J cannot watch it 24/7, so we all have to be watchful.

I cannot imagine what it is going to look like when all of these lots are filled with businesses. :thud:

Thank you for posting this, especially the residential lighting aspect. I think a lot of folks just don't understand how bothersome excessive outdoor lighting can be for their neighbors. Of course there are the ones that are just rude and selfish as well, not much to be done about that.

Years ago I had one neighbor who had way too many lights on in the name of 'safety'. Didn't give a hoot how it impacted their neighbors. Another neighbor told me, "I don't have any outdoor lights because if someone wants to break into my place, I'm not going to light the way for them! I hope they fall on the rocks or break their ankle in a hole". It is sad that the light pollution is getting so bad, I feel sorry for people who can't see the stars at night, I feel it is robbing people, especially kids, of pondering the incredible beauty of the universe with their own eyes.

"There are two kinds of people in these parts, my friend. Those who want to escape the noise, lights, and burdens of the city, and those who want to drag the city lights, congestion and rec centers up here with them".

As for the stores, I heard that one of the stores will a Dollar General, or Dollar Tree store. But, over the years I've also heard McDonalds, Wal Mart and others will be at the top of Crow Hill, so we'll see.

I like to run early in the morning (3-4am) and have noticed over the years that the light pollution in my neighborhood has gotten worse as LED outdoor lighting has gained in popularity. LED lights are a great invention but they don't need to be on all night long. Some of the houses I run by make me wonder if some people just don't get along with their neighbors and are trying to [urine] them off.

It also seems whenever someone new moves in that they tend to have outdoor lights on. I assume they have moved from more urban areas and are accustomed to not being able to see stars at night. I guess some people are just afraid of the dark.

Huh? Is California the only state in the US that displays an excess of human lighting? I don't think so.

I'm sure you will find some way to continue to blame this on California, but here is just one of probably many light pollution maps on the Net: http://www.youcanseethemilkyway.com/light-pollution/ . It shows that California is a piker when it comes to radiating light frequencies to the skies.

maybe we should try, Norddokota or Suddokota. Or perhaps Britisch-Kolumbien up there in Kanada?
and that state of Kalifornien does have some very large bright spots!

Welcome to all the piker light radiating places... like California.
