Let's use the $$$ law enforcement collects for doing nothing but write tickets. How come law enforcement has nothing better to do than hide with a radar gun

Hickenlooper cuts CDOTs budget 41%.... big surprise. Kum and Go and the strip mall owner, Steve, both paid a total of $150,000.00 to upgrade this intersection (to CDOT). Now that they "found" that money, hopefully they won"t use it somewhere else.

The marijuana tax won't help. After 40% goes to schools, the rest goes into the Colorado General Fund and is dispersed into other programs. CDOT is at the bottom of that list because they get funds from other sources, like registration and fuel taxes.

At least, that's how I am understanding the explanations I have heard.

Maybe if Kings Valley had it's own police department and the revenue from all the people running the first stop sign and blocking the frontage road would pay for an upgrade.... eventually.

Great idea, as long as the revenue goes to improve this intersection.

Those cameras are nothing more than revenue generators like the MPD speed traps and the 285/River Point camera, and provide no funding for road or intersection upgrades because they are operated by independent companies.

What we need are people who actually know how to drive a vehicle! A camera doesn't stop people who exit the wrong way from K&G, have no clue how to merge, have no idea what an acceleration lane is, or are too stupid to not block an intersection.

You mean any "independent company" can just set up speed traps any where they want to generate revenue? I doubt that.

As for a "revenue generator", that's the whole point.

Yes they are run by independent companies. No, they obviously can't put them up anywhere they want. But they set them up and manage them, and then share the money with the municipality they have the contract with.

The red light/Van cameras are operated by independent companies, obviously the MPD has their own cash cow.

But, the cameras are all about money and business, and seems to have no connection to road or intersection improvements....

Quote:
The estimated revenue for 2015 from the camera and van was about $725,000; the total amount the contractor is to receive is an estimated $398,000, leaving an estimated $327,000 to go back into the city's coffers.

$400k/year.........Amazing what you can do with a plain white van and a really cool camera.....

Guess I will have to look into purchasing a white van and a motion detecting camera.

It's amazing there aren't more of them.

But you don't have to pay a photo ticket unless it's hand delivered to you. It's all a big scam for $$$

I could not attend the meeting this past Wednesday about plans for the Kings Valley intersection.

How did the meeting go and what options were discussed?

Thank you.
