I know the race does not start for another month but I am excited already.
So I logged onto the website to read the latest news.

I realize that this is old news, but I am just now learning about the scandal around Dallas Seavey and dog doping allegations.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/23/spor ... eavey.html

I'm not a big fan of Dallas, but I respect his dog mushing abilities and I for one believe him regarding this scandal. Just watch his video, that is a passionate man telling the truth. It makes no sense at all that he would give any of his dogs Tramadol during the race. I do believe that he was maliciously sabotaged.

It's hard to imagine that another musher would do this to anyone's dogs. Especially those in the top ten who could benefit from Dallas being disqualified. But unfortunately they would clearly have the means, opportunity, and motive (as would other non-racing, Iditarod personnel).

No, I can't go there. I do not think this was an inside job.

I personally suspect this malicious attack was the work of one of the various "hate groups". I doubt the culprit(s) will ever be found. So I pray that karma somehow persuades them away from future hateful actions.

I also pray that Dallas can be cleared from this scandal.
Such sad news for Dallas, his family and the entire Iditarod community.

Oh, no! I guess nothing is off limits, anymore. Thanks for sharing this. I hadn't heard about it either.

Some of the well known veteran Iditarod mushers speak out in support of Dallas.

It's a shame that Dallas will not be competing in the Iditarod this year. Will he ever race the Iditarod again?

I wish him well in all his other mushing endeavors.

I think by dropping out, Dallas is giving who ever fed his dogs the "medication" the satisfaction of knowing they are harming the race and one of its major competitors. But he will do what's right for him. What a shame this happened.

You are right, the malicious people who drugged his dogs will see this as a victory.

But him dropping out is not about someone sabotaging his dogs. It is in protest of how the Iditarod BOD handled this matter (or better stated, mishandled).

I read that he was racing his "A" team in the Yukon Quest next week, but I do not see his name on the roster.

Mushers demand the Iditarod board president step down, citing ‘poor leadership’

The Iditarod Official Finishers Club is demanding that the president of the race's governing board resign immediately, saying his "poor leadership" has jeopardized the sport.

If he doesn't step down, the mushing club cautioned in a letter to the board Tuesday, the 2018 Iditarod "will be completely overshadowed by negative discourse and action demanding his resignation."
