Good afternoon,
I know many are concerned that King Soopers is still selling firewood to campers while we are under fire ban and with active wildfires.

I spoke with the store manager today who confirmed that the cashiers are not supposed to say anything to people purchasing wood because "its not up to us how they use our product, or where." They also informed me that the district manager is the one making the decision and has posted a disclaimer of their liability in the store.

I encourage you to call and voice your concerns. I'd recommend calling the store manager, as she is the one that can immediately take action (or directly contact who can).
You may also want to contact the district via https://www.kroger.com/customercomments.

They are protecting against their liability. Protect us.

Disclaimers do not release liability for negligence and nothing stops someone from suing you and costing $$.

I just submitted a comment. I complained to Safeway a couple of years ago for also selling firewood in a dry summer. Nothing came of that complaint.

Yes, I recognize the limitations of a disclaimer. What I was trying to express is that they are aware of our concerns enough to create a disclaimer. But they need to hear from us in order to get a change made.

Its up to each of us personally how they hear our concerns. For me personally, I told them I will not be shopping Kings for the holiday.

I don't hold King Soopers accountable for fires. It is up to each individual shopping there to know what bans and restrictions are in place. They can't pull stuff on and off the "shelf" every time the restrictions change. It is not their responsibility.

Having said that, I do think they should think about NOT selling firewood at all

That's just an excellent point. Frankly, I'm much more afraid of the prospect of careless or ignorant campers than I am of firearms.

So does this mean they should stop selling cigarettes, charcoal, and matches. Big R needs to stop selling ammunition, welders and chainsaws. Those are all included in our current restrictions so we better have all that pulled from the shelves too.

There are some areas that are accessed via 285 that do not have as strict of fire restrictions where you could have a fire.

The type of people that make a fire with the wood they buy at King Soopers during a fire ban would go out and find wood near their campsite if they can’t buy it. They don’t care about the rules.

Firewood has pretty much one purpose when bought.

If it's an individual store manager's decision whether to sell firewood, I think out of deference to the surrounding community and the customers who use that store frequently, it should be an easy choice NOT to sell firewood. It can't bring in that much money.

They could post a sign nearby that points out that there are fire restrictions in local counties and to check with local authorities, or the actual restrictions, or both.
