Hi mountain folks,
I'm in Jeffco and I just noticed the neighbors are having a fire. Considering the dryness, burn bans, and nearly a dozen wildfires burning in our state, what's the best course of action here? Should I call this in? If so to whom?
They're making me crazy nervous. Any thoughts and info is appreciated. Thanks!

I hate to be an a$$h0le.
But what the hell.?
It is dry as hell every county has burn bans and their fires all over the state, and you're wondering what to do? Have a hard time understanding why people these days need approval or opinions of others In deciding what the right and wrong thing is to do anymore.
Can nobody handle things on there own anymore.?
If you're too concerned to go over there yourself then you clearly know how dry it is and that there are burn bans everywhere so what else is there to do? Call the fire department or the sheriff's department it's not that hard?
In the time in took you to go to a social media site to ask opinions of others something really bad could have happened.

Called it in. Elk Creek Fire and Jeffco are looking into it. Just drove past my place to the neighbor's place.

you did the right thing. with the whole damn state a tinder box, it is best to call it in and let the authorities deal with it.

You know it IS possible it is a legal propane fire. When I camped in NM which had fire restrictions, I saw what looked like a fairly large campfire so I reminded them that no fires were allowed and then they showed me that it was an amazingly realistic portable propane fire pit. I didn't realize they could look so nice!

I would just go over to the neighbors and just say I was concerned to see a fire.

DogRunner is Correct, and so was CJH. If there is an a$$h0le in this situation it was the one with the fire.

The OP was indecisive in this situation, CJH was correct to point that out! As dry as it is, the authorities should have been called immediately! Then go over to check it out your self, if you're so inclined. If you do it would be smart to carry a shovel with you.

I agree... depending on how you know the neighbor either talk to them and if they basically tell you to take a hike call it it. If you don't feel comfortable CALL IT IN. Otherwise go to Pinecam that'll work <<<and that is sarcasim

Right is right, and wrong is still wrong. No more black and white then that.

I'm sorry, but i just can't handle people's unwillingness to do the right thing anymore. Why do we need approval of the popular vote to make decisions based on what's right and wrong. No brain surgeon needed to figure this one out. And yes, it very well could have been a legal (propane) fire.
But go find out, or if too afraid to do so, call it in, period.

CJH, your message might have been a good one ... but you were very negative and confrontational in how you worded it. I persist in my interpretation of your original post. Unfortunately, it is a good example of the type of "discussion" that is all too common these days.
