At this time of year foxes will travel around the most and can be heard calling for a mate.Feb 22, 2018
They sound sometimes horrible, it pays to go to website and listen to the sounds they make, ours sounds like a gorilla huffing and puffing, also rabbits scream bloody murder, hope this helps

Raccoons make a horrible, blood curdling scream too when cornered/trapped.

Coyotes can really make some blood curdling screams.

Did it sound like this? Female mountain lions can sound remarkably like a human female screaming.

There is a fox that constantly sits in my driveway and screams late at night. I always go out on my deck and yell "SHEEAADDUUUPPP!!" It works. She just gets up and trots off into the woods.

 I've been successful with doing that to crows: As loudly as I can, "SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!". It works for awhile.

Reminds me of a story way back when I was a kid, before there was air conditioning. (Yes there was a time there was no AC.) Anyway, I was visiting my grand parents along the Texas coast, it was at night and we were in bed, the windows were open, and there was an owl somewhere that was busy "WHO"ing up a storm. My grandfather got tired of trying to sleep with the owl outside so he got up and yelled out the window "SHUTUP" as loud as he could, and he got a "WHO-WHO" in return. To which he replied "You, you flat faced son-of-a-b***h!".

My dear husband does just the opposite - he starts cawing back and gets them all going... I often wonder if the crows think he's really tough sounding guy crow, a sweet sounding lady crow, or a crow that's gone mad.
