Thank you Don from Shirley septic , neighbors who helped, and the fire departments who responded for making sure our neighborhood was still here when I came home from work.

I cannot thank each one of you enough. Because of each of you I had a house to come home to, and my animals, friends and neighbors are safe.

Thank you.

No worries about what Shirley Septic used to fight the grass fire - Don had their water truck full of fresh water and now he’s the hero of the day around here. He not only alerted the homeowner of the situation and got him out of the house but also drove the truck right up to the fire so we all had easy access to the water. With the breeze we had, I’m not sure what this neighborhood would look like if he hadn’t come along. An angel that dropped from the sky (or the highway!).

And thank you neighbors Randy and Steven!

FB posts indicate a transformer blew but that was poster discussion and not from an official source.

That brings up a question that is not terribly germane to anything but I'll ask anyway. In the comparison of human-caused wildfires vs natural-cause wildfires, where would causes like a blown transformer or an ember from a coal-fired locomotive land? I guess I would tend to put them in a third category, and leave the "human-caused" category to represent direct results of human stupidity (i.e. events that could now land somebody with an arson charge).

I just read that while fires in the US are 87% human caused, in Colorado 66% are lightning caused. There is a brief little video showing accidental human causes of fire at the Denver Post (https://www.denverpost.com/2017/03/20/d ... wildfires/), We already know most of them:

campfire
fireworks
cigarettes
target shooting
heat from vehicles, lawn mowers or chainsaws

Prescribed fires getting out of control is another one. I guess I would put transformer explosions and train sparks under something like "indirect human caused".

I just talked to Don who was driving by with 200 gallons of fresh water, a new water pump and buckets. He says to tell everyone thank you for the kind words and thank you to the neighbors who jumped in to help. also thank you to the first responders who got there so fast!

Reading this thread, I am grateful that many subscribers to this thread (if not all) participate, as being fire spotters (starting with a plume of smoke). There is a Fire Ban, which means no fire, even in a fire pit... unless fire can be turned off with an on/off switch, as in a gas/propane fire ring. If you can't turn it off with a turn of the dial, don't do... and don't think that the thunderstorms of this afternoon,
"is a good to go" not so.
