Ours too went up but 55K...and our taxes will be an additional another $250.00 a year. I'll check out the senior tax break and see if it makes any difference this time.

Mine went up $36,663 about 21% increase, my taxes will go up $170+ - hopefully $85 with exemption - which shouldn't be a big deal, it goes up most years but unfortunately my income doesn't. It gets more difficult each year.

After re-reading the property tax exemption rules, problem solved ,,I forgot, it only applies to the first $200K of valuation.

:yikes: We just opened our JeffCo property valuation - $80,000 increase! We plan to contest this evaluation. No way this can be correct.

I already posted that mine went up 30% - but didn't say it was a $60,000 increase. Our appraised value last fall was $300,000, but the assessed value (now $250,000) has always been way below the appraised value. What percentage increase was this for you?

If it's any consolation, the percentage increase in one's property taxes isn't the same as the percentage increase in assessed value. The total amount of property tax that can be collected is limited by statute and mill levies are adjusted accordingly. So, the percent increase in taxes due may be less than the percent increase in valuation.
