My valuation went up $90,000. Elk Falls subdivision. Our legislature tried to gut the Property Tax program for seniors this year, but luckily they were not successful.

Yes - this program should not be relied upon. During the last recession it was suspended for a few years and seniors did not get the tax break during that time.

Only an 84,000.00 increase and my front door is duck taped shut. Yikes! Friendship ranch area.

Bailey, increased 54k. Where are you all getting how much extra my taxes will be. Didn't we just elect a new assessor in park county. Maybe why it went up. Needing more money into park county. I did notice homes were selling higher lately.

I recently learned about zillow.com. Apparently it is a way to see if your property valuation is in the ball park. I can't say if that is true or false.

As we look for a new home in Tennessee, I have learned to be very skeptical of information on Zillow. I would definitely not use it as any kind of trusted source of property values.

Hey Keg!

Where are you looking in TN? I ask, cuz my brother and wife moved to Chuckey, TN 6 yrs ago. They absolutely loooove it! Originally spent their entire lives on Long Island, NY. Lots of travelling (int'l too), and finally retired in Chuckey. They love the people, active in the community, etc. Beautiful countryside. And get this; their property taxes are $500.yr. I'm ready to pack my bags!

Not to jack the thread or anything … but to respond to your question, we're looking in southern TN, over a pretty wide area. One thing I've learned since I got here is to avoid the Nashville metro area at all costs! It looks like Chuckey is near the tri-cities area, which would be my preference because it's near the mountains, but that does not support our move reason, which was to be near (in-law) family.

In JeffCo, an increase of $65.000 on a tiny 2 bed 1 bath house.

When one files a protest, does one take recent sales of comparable homes to theirs in the surrounding area or go by the current valuations of the homes not recently sold in their particular neighborhood from Park County's website?

You need to use actual sales comparisons as close to but not beyond June 30, 2018. Your tax satement is based on the value of your house (according to them) on 6/30/2018.

How come my property evaluation went DOWN by $30,000? Oops, shutup stupid me. Maybe I better read it again with my glasses on. With this kind of de-valuation, I can't move to Waikiki like I planned. So much for the joy of  retirement
