Would anyone know where I can find pickling lime up here?I've tried Safeway, King Soopers, and Natural Grocers. I need one cup and would be willing to pick up locally if you have any you could spare.Who knew it's so hard to find!

Wow, you must have an old recipe. Pickling lime is no longer recommended for home canning. That's why it is so hard to find.

I suggest you find a new recipe.

CooknThyme has posted an excellent article! If you are looking to keep your pickles crisp, both Ball (Pickle Crusp) and Mrs Wages (not sure of product name) make an additive that is calcium chloride. I have used the Ball stuff and it works OK but I also have great luck with recipes that do not call for these additives.

I had another thought. If you are looking to make your own masa for tamales or tortillas, the lime called for there is calcium oxide, not chloride or hydroxide. If this is what you need you might call Tortillas Mexico in Denver. They may have it and certainly have fresh ground masa. As do a lot of the carnicerias on Federal. I am probably way off base, so just a wild thought. Good luck.
