IMHS Rushes Aid to 4-footed Fire Victims

The Intermountain Humane Society (IMHS) is rushing supplies to the animal victims of the Waldo Canyon fire who are being served by the front-line staff and volunteers of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region in Colorado Springs.

“Our hearts go out to all the people who are evacuating due to fire and we’re grateful that so many included their beloved animals in their evacuation plans,” stated Marta Anderson, Shelter Director, “IMHS is extending a hand to the animal victims being served by Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region as they deal with helping those in need.”

This morning, IMHS sent a volunteer with cages and crates, clean blankets, pet food bowls, and 300lbs of food to help those dogs and cats who are currently homeless due to the fire.

“Every single day animal shelters like ours face a flood of homeless animals with very limited financial resources, so there is never a day that we’re not in crisis mode,” said Anderson, “but tragedies like the wildfires require an extra effort by humane societies to show love to animals and the people who care for them. We hope that the animals and their guardians will soon be back in their own homes. Our hearts are with the victims, and the workers providing aid to those in need.”

IMHS provided 300lbs of dog food on Wednesday to officers at Park County Animal Control to distribute to their network of agencies assisting wildfire victims.

The Intermountain Humane Society is a private, non-profit organization that receives no government funding and relies on donations and community support to serve its mission. IMHS is located at 67318 US Hwy 285 S in Pine Junction. For more information on spay-neuter programs, adoption or volunteer opportunities, call 303-838-2668 or visit
