A BIG DOG, YET SO VULNERABLE....

Thought I'd share this with all you animal lovers and make it short and sweet.

I visited Petsmart and saw that they had a 5year old Mastif for adoption. He sat in the corner, ears down, head down and shivering. I asked to play with him to see how'd he do with me. They got him out and he was scared of everything. They said he was abused by his former owner and that the owner had hit him in his head with a board or metal because the left side of his head is lopped sided due to the blunt force and his muscles not working anymore.....PLUS, it blinded his left eye. He also didnt have much teeth left. They were almost filed down to his gums. I was informed that he either was chewing on his chain to get loose or chewing on the fence to get loose, but the filing down of the teeth to where almost just his gum showed was a sign of trying to escap. I filled out the paperwork and ADOPTED HIM!
I took him to my vet and he said this was a 5year old mastif who is suppose to weigh around 110+ pounds. My poor little5 year old Mastif weighed 55 pounds! YES, 55 pounds!!! Spine and rib bones showing.
I fed him puppy food, rice and lots of goodies...and he slept with me in bed the FIRST NITE! I think that was the very first nite that he has a RESTFUL, PEACEFUL, COMFORTABLE and LOVING nite he'd had in his lifetime.
Since then, he has slept on my bed everynite....now weighs 115 pounds, .followed me everything and so so happy. He sleeps alot, but I just tell my friends and the vet that he's making up his sleep.........for all those nites that he was miserable and couldn't sleep. Now, hes got an appetite, I tell ya!
I tell people that animals know when you adopt them and save them from misery......i know my Mastif, "Yoda" is the most loyal dog I've had!
Thought I'd share some pics also!

Yoda is such a sweet looking boy. Good for you for making him a home and helping him to trust again.

It so hard to think that people can be so awful to their pets. Thank god for those that rescue those unlucky animals. Yoda looks soooo sweet!

The world could use a few more people like yourself,
and a few less like the previous owner.
Thanks for sharing this story!

Bless you for adopting Yoda, and taking a chance on what was clearly a very frightened creature. Many people would have picked an easier adoption. I cried at my desk too!! Three of my five critters were rescues, and boy, they know it. We have a special bond, as you do with Yoda.

Glad you were able to rescue someone- btw it's 'mastiff' with two f's. Sure looks like he's happy!
And just to be ornery, I think your guy is a mix, though I am sure it doesn't affect his quality.
