Oh Please,
Welcome Border Patrol. Maybe this forum can be limited to pets. Defined as animals that have names and know their name.

No objection on my part, but even though the keeping of stock is diminishing rapidly in these parts, the limitation MAY require a separate forum be created for livestock and stockmen.

BTW - the Homestead I live on, and the surrounding area was at the turn of the century prime summer graze - grass everywhere but on the ridgetops and in the deep holes. A lot more productive then. Now severely overgrown with stunted trees and underbrush. MAJOR fire hazard.

Roundups and drives to the railhead in Sedalia. Crops were grown along the creek, and hauled via wagon (two days round trip) to Denver markets.

There is a price to pay for "civilization".

OK, I know. The world has changed. I just wonder sometimes if it has been for the better.

I like you too, JMiller!

RR, I've been thinking that very thing--a topic Sticky for livestock. Horses aren't really pets. Well, for some they are, but for others, they are more.

Anyhow, thanks all, it's nice to be here!

Oh, I don't know about this. I'm not sure where Bubbles got this definition but to me the "Pet Corner" is about any animal that is loved for its life and cared for with human compassion and lives with their "human".

I think a topic on livestock would be interesting. Being from the New Jersey suburbs of New York, I've never been around a cow or large animal. I think we city dwellers miss out on a lot of what nature is all about and what life is all about.

Sorry, I was just having a bad moment and was pretty tired of the voles invading every thread. Carry on!

No need to be sorry, Bubbles, we all have our own definitions. However, they did sneak into this topic anyway.

Have you seen that show on Discover Science with "virtual pets" that are holograms - sorta like a robot dog but only an image? I don't think these will ever catch on. No warmth, no liveliness, no special surprises that every pet gives, no unique personality.

A separate forum for livestock? Nah, why would we want that? Maybe just change the name of this one to Animal House.
