Just thought everyone with a dog should be aware of this:

Canine Flu outbreak in Denver
---------------------------------
Veterinarians are battling an outbreak of canine flu in Denver that's
stricken dogs in 25 states.

The flu cannot be passed to humans or other kinds of animals, but humans
can carry it on their clothes to other dogs. The flu usually runs its
course in 2 to 3 weeks, but some states are reporting deaths. The flu
sometimes leads to pneumonia.

Edward Dubovi, Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, says
the most seriously affected areas in the United States are Denver, Miami
and New York City. Vets around the country are taking extra precautions.

Canine influenza was 1st identified in 2005. Since it is so new, most
dogs don't have natural immunity to the virus. Symptoms include
sneezing, coughing, and fever. If you think your dog has canine
influenza, contact your vet.

Two of my dogs had it a couple years ago, in Evergreen. It wiped them out. If your pups get it, make sure they drink a lot of water. You don't want them staying at the vet with a needle stuck in him :(

3 of mine got it. The two bigs ones did okm but the beagle almost died! They caught it while boarding and I was 2500 miles away. IT WAS AWFUL!!

Rumor has it, though that once they get it, they probably won't get it again.

monkeygirl--Where did you read about this outbreak? I knew CO had a big outbreak a couple of months ago but I didn't realize that it resurfaced. Do you mind sharing?

I had some friends in Littleton who's dog contracted it twice in a month in November. It can be very deadly. It's a strain of the equine flu and most orthodox veterinary treatments don't seem to work to well. It seems the alternative medicines are able to get a good hold on it.

I saw that on the News the other day- but working in the dog business- closely with local vets-- I can say that nobody up here has seen anything like an outbreak.
I've heard about bacteria over growth problems with all this water and wetness around but no dog flu or outbreak of Bordetella either.
