Yea, you always miss them.

But when you look back on the ones you did have to choose to let go, you start seeing more and more clearly what a kind, unselfish decision you made.

That is love at its purest -- you do something that's best for the other, even though it completely devastates you.

I just read this thread today. I've not gone thru this before but have thought about it when it's time for my labs. They're my kids and I love them so much. Can't imagine the emotions.

Thoughts and prayers with you today, CooknThyme.

CooknThyme,

Along with many posters, I've been there and done that, and I'm crying along with you.

It helped me a bit to recognize that even though the dog's life is way too short and the end is excruciatingly painful for us, I'd happily stand in a long line and pay to be able to do it all over again.

How fortunate we are to have had them in our lives!

Take care.

Cooknthyme, I think it was incredibly brave of you to share your experience. I read this thread today and absolutely bawled me eyes out for you and your babies. How are you doing? My thoughts and prayers are with you. How is Barkley doing? Take care.

I received Spencer's ashes yesterday afternoon. Thank you.

I cried and snuggled with Barkley for the longest time yesterday evening. We miss him so very much. Barkley and I are both having some difficulties adjusting to life without our precious Spencer. When I am home we are glued together at all times, leaning on each other for support. Barkley may be recovering a little faster than me, but who knows the heart ache a dog experiences and how they process it. But it has only been 2 weeks (tomorrow) so I am not too worried that I still cry everyday.

Thank you everyone for all the emotional and financial support through all of this. I have never experienced anything like this before and I don't think I could have walk through this alone. I am so grateful for all the wisdom and comfort that was provided to me through this thread and the dozens of PMs.

I am also deeply grateful for all of you getting together to pay the vet bill and to allow me to get Spencer's ashes back. What an amazing gift! I will wait until I have Barkley's ashes and then I will bury them together.

Dr. Anderson also informed me yesterday when she dropped off Spencer's ashes that more people have sent her money to be used towards Barkley's vet bills and medications to control the pain from his cancer. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am overwhelmed by the generosity.

I will pay this forward as soon as I have the opportunity to do so.

Blessings to you all.

Thank you for letting us share this difficult time with you. Just like we sometimes need help from others, others need to feel like they are helping.

<hugs> :)
