First, the bad. I have a wild iris that volunteered up a few years back and likes its home on the north side of my House. This year, I could see 3 buds forming and watched it closely. The blooms are usually so lovely. One evening, I was closing the window located over the iris and saw all three blooms open. The next morning, I went out to take a picture and this is what I saw:

3 flower stalks minus the flowers. Something ate all three blooms overnight. ***sigh***

Now, the good. I had a fence around the perennial bed down in my big garden. In early June, a deer leaned over the fence and ate my columbine there down to about 3 inches. I thought "well there goes any blooms this year". Wrong. Here it is now:

It's almost 4 feet tall and covered with blooms. The hummingbirds and bees love it.

Which just goes to show, you never know what to expect when gardening, sometimes it's not so good and sometimes wonderful.

So true!

The deer ate all my iris blooms this year too. Most years they leave mine alone.

Your columbine looks fabulous!
Mine are suffering between the deer and this blasting heat.
