Had a pneumonia vac in the afternoon and the next afternoon knee swollen twice it's normal size, extremely painful, could not bend. Dr said possible bursitis or gout. Lasted 3 weeks, just as that cleared my big toe joint did the same thing on same leg. Dr said gout but gout meds did nothing at all, after 4 weeks I can almost walk again. Still swollen & painful. Both of these joints are weak & have been injured. So could be vac. made arthritis flare or it is a coincidence. Sorry I did not just go to emergency room immediately, might have had an answer. So tossing this to pinecam as net only showed bursitis affecting both shoulders after vac.

I am sorry you went this episode, but incomplete evidence to draw causal conclusions.

Sorry, not trying to connect vac to ailment until I hear if someone local had problems. Internet has bursitis and minor joint problems linked to vac. also arthritis flare ups. I am only suspicious because as an individual I have had extreme reactions to some meds. Tylenol will put me in the emergency room, yet is safe for most. Just trying to gather info so I am informed. Not sue happy just want to get well. All my lymph nodes on that side very swollen day after vac. most only have sore arm. Anyway- just wanted to know if anyone else had problems.

So when I have Anaphylaxis from tylenol there are some who would say there is no connection. Because they are going on generalities? In medicine there are always exceptions- that is what I am looking for.

Actually have a friend in the hospital right now after getting the pneumonia and flu vaccine. He has GBS, Guillain Barre which is a reaction to an immunization. Had the same symptoms which got more severe. I would definitely have it checked out.

That is exactly the response I am looking for so I know to press further than just gout, never had it, none in family & does not react to gout medicine. Thank you so much, I will return to Dr. instead of waiting for this to go away. Thank you again!

my husband is retired from medicine and I have learned over the years that many folks want to connect the dots between an event and a medical condition without real proof. I was simply pointing that out, but it would seem you just wanted someone to agree with you. good luck getting answers

Agree with me? Not at all, because I am only suspicious. But if a few have reactions then I know there is a possibility and I need to look further and ask more questions. I really am not that ignorant to immediately connect the vac. to a malady but the timing was interesting.

Mtnkat, Thank you so much for the positive answer on vac. You helped me decide to see dr again and get the correct meds to lower my immune system and solve my possible vac. caused pain in two joints. Second pneumonia vac started an immune system response that went into joints, instead of making antibodies for pneumonia. Govt. program sending me papers to fill out on this. Does not happen to everyone but maybe my information will help someone else.
