Can anyone can give me some advice on a blood clot (DVT) in the leg. Dr. seriously thinks I have a DVT, my calf is constantly painful, swollen and rock hard. One night I couldn't stand on it...it cramped up more and felt like a charlie horse for the whole night. I think I know how I got the DVT....about 7 months ago I tore the cartilage in my knee and had to wear this knee brace for most of the time and it was digging into my calf. Unfortunately, the soonest I can get into imaging is on the 30th....but if I have another charlie horse night, I'm calling 911.

DVT is nothing to be fooled with. I can't imagine a doctor being willing to wait ten days for a determination. Over the years I have had several friends diagnosed and all were hospitalized. Each of those were the result of long airplane rides but I'm sure there are other causes. Are you on blood thinners for other causes? I'm afraid for you.

If it were me, I'd be heading to an ER. DVTs can be really dangerous. Is it red or hot too?

My husband had an ultrasound of his leg to detect a blood clot. I cannot imagine that can't be done for you sooner than July 30.

Did you try contacting UCHealth of University of Colorado Hospital? You may be able to schedule something much sooner.

I've never had the need for blood thinners, my blood is already thin because of other health issues. Can you believe this plight I'm having Mrs. BGR, if it' not one thing, it's another. Plus, I'm waiting on test results for CLL (Leukemia). My dad had it and I guess there's a certain chromosome that can make it hereditary and I have the symptoms of it.

The good news Mrs. BGR, which I'm not sure you heard about, is that I've been able to eradicate that other nasty virus I had for over 40 years. I feel like a hypochondriac, with all my health issues :( .

I don't think my Dr. knows how far out the appointment is. I'm leaving her an email about it and I'm going to try and get it sooner. Scary part is that we're so far from the hospital, that's not good for a PE. If I get any more symptoms, I'm calling 911.

It has been red and terribly enlarged a few months ago. Everyone was putting that off to the fact that I had torn my meniscus a few months earlier. Right now it's really painful and terribly enlarged. My calf feels rock hard too. I'm doing my best to keep it elevated.

I would consider those highly concerning signs. When my husband had his recent hip surgery, we were concerned a few days later that he had DVT, and the on call nurse had us take photos and send them in. They were able to determine from the photos that wasn't what was going on- could you maybe do something like that with your on call doctor?

The office of the doctor that did my husband's surgery asked us practically every day online whether he showed DVT symptoms and described them with photos. The symptoms you describe in your post mirror the symptoms we were asked to look for and to call immediately if we saw them.

I wouldn't be waiting for something to get worse. It's already bad. Your current situation already meets the threshold for an ER visit.

I'd suggest Swedish ER in Englewood. It's a Level 1 trauma center: 285 north past Broadway-->Left on Logan-->Right on Girard-->Arrive at Swedish ER.

Please go as soon as possible! You need to have this taken care of!
