Torn meniscus would not make your calf swollen and red. Do you have pitting edema? Meaning, if you press your finger into the surface of your calf does the imprint stay? I had blood clots in my femoral and saphenous veins after a knee surgery many years ago...I did not know what it was but had the same symptoms. Luckily my physical therapist caught it and I went to the ER. It is a big deal. I know this is several hours since your post, so I hope you got to the ER.

I had very similar symptoms after hip replacement surgery. My PCP sent me straight to ER. An ultra sound showed multiple clots and I was admitted to hospital immediately and not allowed out of bed for almost a week in case any of the clots moved.

Go to ER now, please.

I finally had my ultrasound today....No DVT...Hooray!
This is actually what they found "Elongated complex cystic structure in the posterior medial aspect
of the popliteal fossa, with extension into the mid calf. This may be
caused by hematoma or marked increase in craniocaudal extent of a
previous Baker's cyst." I couldn't believe it was a cyst going from the back of my knee down to the middle of my calf. That explains why my calf is rock hard.

I have never heard of a Baker’s cyst doing something like that, so if you do not improve I would get a second opinion. I know that as we age and get banged up things take longer to heal. But this sounds worrisome. You take care and keep us posted.

Glad you got someone to look at it sooner then the 30th! Don't know what the treatment is for what you described, but hope you recover quickly.

I hope you do also. Did your doctor recommend any treatment - hot or cold compresses, any kind of topical pain killer?

I had a similar experience. Baker's cysts are awful- mine flares up and gets really swollen when I am on my feet too much, which is pretty much all the time. Hope you're feeling better!
