Hello all~~

In a post about where people were having Thanksgiving meals, I mentioned that we would be eating in the cafeteria at UC Health Sciences Center. Once we were through that crisis, I planned to explain what had happened, however the hospital has published an article which highlights much of the health issues my son-in-law has faced, and continues to face, so I'll let them tell the story.

I kept thinking that Brian faced too many overwhelming obstacles, to survive. Especially when facing his heart surgery. I've also heard several doctors say that his recovery is miraculous. I believe in miracles, now. No matter the prognosis, there is always hope  https://www.cuanschutztoday.org/miraculous-journey-of-the-heart-i-sometimes-cant-believe-im-here/

Inspiring! We went through something similar a couple years ago. So glad he survived everything that threatened his life!

Thanks for sharing.

I read the article. WOW! Brian is indeed a miracle and your daughter an angel. I never heard of infective endocarditi and looked it up. One could almost be frightened to death just seeing pictures of it let along knowing that it is growing inside one.

How wonderful for your daughter and son-in-law to have found a doctor that could give such extraordinary care. Brian must really want to live to have survived so much! And your daughter saving his life giving breathing/heart first aid was incredible.

Really makes one thankful for having such insignificant health problems when compared to Brian's.

Thank you all. Dr Aftab said that when he saw Brian's heart, he had a moment of doubting that he could get sutures to hold because the heart tissue would just fall apart. After operating for 14 hours, Brian's heart beat on its own for 90 minutes, then it stopped. That is when he had to give manual cardiac massage. We are so blessed to have had this physician. "Sunlight" is everything we could ask for. This article tells about half of the story. There is another article coming out by a different media outlet. I still find myself in disbelief. I am going to take a CPR course. If you aren't up to date on CPR, I encourage all of you to do so.

Wow, this is the most wonderful and heartwarming (sorry for rhe pun) story. Dr Aftab is the greatest! I am so happy to hear of your SIL’s positive recovery. I an sure it has been totally stressful for you all, but I am grateful for a happy ending. Hugs and peace.

Mummydog, you are right about Dr Aftab. I am very impressed with UCHSC. Brian's care was excellent and while being in a teaching hospital has some drawbacks, I wouldn't want him anywhere else.

We have had incredible support from the community and we are so grateful for everyone. It makes such a difference to feel "lifted" in prayer and thought. Thank you.
