We always thought JJ Madwells made a decent, not great pizza. Last time maybe we caught them on a bad night, but we both swore it seemed like a pre-made crust...pretty cardboardy.

Thinking of trying Crossroads or Anthony's. Same drive either way. I will say that every time I've tried to call an order into Anthonys I couldn't get anyone to answer the phone. Not a fan of take and bake, so these seem like the two options.

Opinions?

I prefer 285 Pizza.

Of the three you mentioned, it is more like Anthony's. But that is at the top of Crow Hill, so it is probably a longer drive for you.

Yes, I agree, 285 Pizza! Born n' raised NYC, Crossroads absolutely refuses to cut a "pie". Makes me crazy...

I would also vote 285 Pizza. I think it is the best pizza up here.

It's been a couple years but the last time I ordered a takeout pizza from Crossroads they seemed put out to be dealing with a takeout order. When I shared my experience with others, several people told me they had a similiar experience.

It is entirely possible that this has changed since my visit but I didn't enjoy the experience of feeling like I was hasseling them by ordering a pizza. If you ate at Crossroads then it wouldn't be a problem. As for the pizza, I thought it was good but not as good as 285 Pizza or Madwells.

Ok, took a chance on Crossroads...meh. The crust was interesting, but definitely not traditional. I like spicy, and it's RARE for me to complain about too spicy, but the jalapenos were on fire. So, hard to judge the rest of the flavors. I should have stuck with plain pepperoni for a fair test. My bad on that one. From the concensus it sounds like i should have driven the few extra miles. Next time. Thanks for the inputs.

Mike, the owner, makes his own crust and tomato sauce. He even worries if he has to use a different garlic supplier.

I think all the local places make a good pizza, though the quality can vary day-to-day. If you like the cheese, then I'd say Crossroads is usually the cheesiest.

I will second Cruz-Inn, though they are take-and-bake. In my experience their pizzas have always been consistently good and the crust is very good. Best take-and-bake I've found.

I will 5th or 6th 285 Pizza Pies - never ever got a bad pizza there. Mike is great and runs a great place.

For Take and Bake - we always go to Cruz-in - good crust and decent toppings. Some of their specialty pizzas are unique and delicious.

I've tried JJ's, Anthony's, Crossroads, every take n bake up here, and I'll even throw Beau Jo's in the mix (Evergreen). Anthony's gets my vote. About a year ago they switched up ingredients a bit and its a much better pizza. Very consistent. They also use real Italian sausage. They've got the right balance across the board. They can be VERY busy on weeknights, especially Fridays.
