That is a good idea. I do something similar in that I can carrots, celery, and onions to use as a soup base for turkey or chicken soups. But my jars are not as complete as your frozen bags, conifer4. I still have to add other seasonings.
We dug well over 100 pounds of potatoes on Friday; we had to bring our truck down as the crates were too heavy to carry. And yesterday I dug my carrots. At 15°F this morning,my garden season is officially over. Now for the final cleanup - and dreams of next years gardens. I have a bunch of geranium cuttings rooting for my deck next year. Dreams of color... |

We're having meat loaf and a LOT of mashed potatoes with gravy today. Maybe potato soup tomorrow.

Dug up some of our potatoes the other day. Wow they look great! However, I went out today to dig up the rest and the ground is really frozen. Should never have waited this long. Any ideas? I don't think the frost is down more that two or three inches so I still have hopes that the potatoes are okay. What if I can't get them out until spring? Any chance they would survive the winter?
Thanks! |

If your potatoes are below the freezing zone, you can still dig them. But they will not last till the thaw next spring if left in the ground. We usually miss a potato or two when we dig ours and the ones left in the ground are useless. Frozen potatoes are soft and mushy.
I have read you can use frozen potatoes in some recipes but only if they have frozen once. You might want to do a search on this. |
