I have eaten at the new china village 3 times, I enjoyed it all 3 times and I don't even really like Chinese food.... they are short staffed, but that is sometimes what it takes to get a little restaurant going

We finally got around to going here for lunch today and both of us were very impressed. Each of the dishes we ordered had subtle flavors that we just don't get in other oriental restaurants. This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant in the 285 corridor.

We liked the food so well the last time, we went again and was again very impressed. Some of the very best Oriental food we've ever had anywhere!

Just an FYI. While I don't care, many now consider referring to persons of Asian descent (or referring to various Asian cultures) as "oriental", is offensive. Its just the world we live in. Do with it as you wish. Carry on.

:off topic:

Well SHOOT - I just have to respond and I'm so sorry for jacking this topic but Mods, please feel free to start a new topic with my post. This is an opinion by an Asian American.

I have always thought the same mtree but decided to research it and this is what I came up with,

Quote:
It is now politically incorrect to use the word "Oriental," and the admonition has the force of law: President Obama recently signed a bill prohibiting use of the term in all federal documents.

snip

As an Oriental, I am bemused. Apparently Asians are supposed to feel demeaned if someone refers to us as Orientals. But good luck finding a single Asian American who has ever had the word spat at them in anger.

snip

And why should it be? Literally, it means of the Orient or of the East, as opposed to of the Occident or of the West. Last I checked, geographic origin is not a slur. If it were, it would be wrong to label people from Mississippi as Southerners.

Cultural appropriation aside, it looks to me like the reference was to the food. :?

:off topic: I honestly until today had never known that anyone would consider "Oriental" as something non-PC. Does anyone know why that is true? It must have been a slow year if we actually had to make a law regarding it during the Obama Era. FYI - In case you haven't figured it out, I'm getting SO sick of everything that is not "PC" any more! :on topic:
I'm looking forward to trying China Village since I haven't yet!

Does that mean companies like Oriental Transportation, Northern Oriental Transport, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Oriental Bancorp, Oriental Daily news, .et .al, are offending people? Could someone please provide an updated list of words I'm not allowed to say anymore, I just can't keep up with all of it.

Back to the topic - China Village has some great 'Pacific Region of the Planet Influenced Food', and the good people there provide very good service.

I really wouldn’t waste my time Taranis, because some or all of these words will become offensive and the offensive ones will become acceptable again. So sad that we are so caught up on words rather than what really matters, people’s respect and kindness to people not like themselves.

Back on topic and hope it stays this way, China Village is awesome and our favorite place for lunch.
