02/18/2004: "Wild turkeys released in Hayman burn area"
DIVIDE, Colo. -- Twenty-eight wild turkeys charged out of cargo boxes and into the Pike National Forest, where wildlife officials hope they will re-establish themselves after a devastating wildfire nearly two years ago.
The Merriam wild turkeys -- 25 females and three males -- were released Tuesday about 25 miles northwest of Colorado Springs, on the edge of the 138,000 acres charred by the Hayman Fire in 2002. Full Story
