BRECKENRIDGE - When Dana Carotenuto reached a small perch barely 100 feet away from the summit of Peak 1 on Thursday morning, two well-meaning people approached her and told her that the last pitch to the top was too icy and that she was best off to admire the new American flag on top of the mountain from there, and turn back. Murder suspect arrested on Rampart Range Road
A suspect arrested early today at a remote Douglas County campsite is slated to be arraigned in the murder of an Aurora man. Douglas County sheriff's deputies apprehended White without incident about 1 a.m. this morning at a makeshift campsite near Rampart Range Road in Pike National Forest. He had been seen wearing camouflage just before noon Tuesday at Indian Creek Campground. (Denver Post)

Slurry system protects homes
La Plata County residents seeking to fire-proof their homes have one more weapon available with the introduction of slurry spraying machines available through a Mancos-based company.

For about $1,700, Fire Ready sells a pressurized tank filled with 120 gallons of the same fire retardant used by U.S. Forest Service air tankers – enough to cover a 3,000-square-foot home. The slurry is sprayed with a 100-foot hose operated manually. Automatic operation through permanently installed tubes on a home is also available.
