16 oz. figs, chopped
1/2 cup sugar
6 tbls water
6 tbls brandy
1/2 cup chopped almonds
2 1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon
2/3 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbls milk
Cooking Instructions:

In a small saucepan, combine figs, sugar, water, brandy. Bring to a boil and boil 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in almonds. Cool

Beat shortening and brown sugar until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla extract. Sift flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Add dry ingredients to shortening mixture, alternating with milk. Chill until firm.

Forming Cookies:

Roll half of the chilled dough into a 10 by 9 inch rectangle. Spread with half the fig filling. Roll, starting at the long end, into a cylinder shape. Pinch edge to seal. Using both hands, make sure the roll is rounded and even. Roll in plastic wrap and place in freezer to harden. Repeat with remaining half of dough.

Remove a dough roll from the freezer. Cut into 1/4 inch slices and place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350?F for 10 - 12 minutes. Cool. Repeat with remaining dough roll.
Additional Comments:

These are a lot like Fig Newtons

You can substitute Orange Curacle, Triple Sec, orange juice, or water for the bandy.
