In Mar 2019 Colorado Gov signed the National Popular Vote (NPV) into Colorado law. This law binds our states electors to vote for whichever Presidential candidate that wins the National Popular Vote, even if majority of Coloradans voted for a different candidate.

If you believe Colorado's votes still matter during US Presidential elections...you have another opportunity to sign the petition next Tuesday that will let us decide if this should remain our law.

WHEN: Tuesday, June 11th, 12-2pm
WHERE: King Soopers in Conifer
> Look for the Volunteer Circulators that will be standing near the entrance

So far the volunteer efforts have collected more than half of the signatures needed.
> This petition is the first step. To collect signatures to place this new law on the 2020 ballot.
> If petition is successful, the second step will be for all Coloradans to vote on this as a referendum in Nov 2020
- Vote 'Yes/For' to keep the law on the books
- Vote 'No/Oppose' to reject it so it can be repealed

My husband and I signed it the other day. We got into a disagreement about it. He said if the politicians have already signed it into law, how can we put it on the ballot? It's already been passed by them. I like the other petition to recall all the Democrats that are going hog wild crazy with changing things and we have no say. That includes the Governor.

The state constitution has a clause that allows voters to overturn some laws passed by the legislature. If enough people sign the petition, it goes on the ballot. At that point a majority of voters determine the outcome similar to a recall. Even if it gets on the ballot, a majority could still vote to keep it.

Thank you for that explanation. I knew that in order for it to work they need to have at least enough states to reach 270 electoral votes, which I don't think will happen. I didn't know what could be done about the officials passing it and the Governor.

Your exactly right...this will not go into effect until there are enough states passing the NPV into law.
The compact needs to pass this law in enough states to gain 270 electoral votes that will be bound by law to vote for whoever wins the NPV.

Currently 15 states have passed this into law (this equates to 189 electoral votes...only 81 electors needed for NVP to go into effect)
- Colorado is 1st so-called "purple" state to sign up and is considered a great accomplishment for the NPV movement
- all others are deep blue states

States working on NPV law...but not yet passed:
8 states (72 electors) have passed NVP in at least one legislative chamber
18 states (152 electors) have tried and continue to work on passing NVP legislation this into law - if Colorado can do it, there is no reason these states wont eventually succeed

We desire to reverse their momentum by having Coloradans vote this down during the 2020 election.
We see no need to wait and see what happens.

I see nothing but the same disdain for democratic process on both sides of this issue. The Democrats are outraged that previous elections were won through the electoral college rather than the popular vote. They should be working to eliminate the electoral college, rather than this end-around maneuver to by-pass it. The Republicans are outraged that this will diminish their ability to govern as a minority party. They should be working to put a referendum up to the voters, rather than this very analogous end-around petition.

Isn't this what this current petition is for? Note the graphic in the first post on this thread where this petition is to put the issue on the ballot or in other words - a 'referendum up to the voters'. This is what you want.

Yes, signing the petition does nothing but show ones support for putting the existing law on the Nov 2020 ballot so Coloradans can vote and decide to keep the law, or reject it.

It is a two step process:
Step 1: Collect enough signatures to petition Secretary of State to add the National Popular Vote Law on Nov 2020 ballot
Step 2: Coloradans must vote in Nov 2020 to decide... 'Yes' to keep it, or 'No' to reject it.

Just found out about another opportunity to sign the NPV petition to put the NPV law on our next ballot.
- this one is a short trip to meet a few neighbors that wanted to meet up and sign, but will stay an hour longer just in case anyone else is interested

WHEN: Tuesday, May 21st, from 11am-12-noon
WHERE: Aspen Park RTD Park-n-ride
LOOK FOR: Red Subaru Outback with back open and a table set up. Sign hanging from hatchback.
- if raining find the Red Subaru Outback with a sign in the windshield

If you haven't signed, please stop on by and bring friends & neighbors to help this effort.
