There were no hummers today, but there was a blue dragonfly staring me down instead.

There was no activity over the weekend at my house.
Feeder is cleaned and tucked away until next season.

I had at least 4 this morning. and I leave my feeders out for about 2 weeks after the last sighting in case there are late migrators that need the fuel.

i just looked at my notes - out of 15 years of recording the dates that i last saw one, (20 years of first seen, but missed some years of last seen) 8 were in October. The latest was Oct 10th! Last year was 10/4. so I'm not even considering quitting yet. there's one now! he/she's visiting one of the potted plants on my deck. I have several feeders visible from my bed and I see them early early early morning - before sunrise, just as it's barely getting light out.

and speaking of birds, boy are the ravenous pine siskins back in force! loving the niger seed... and 12 evening grosbeaks! lots of house finches and cassin's finches, and a flock of pygmy nuthatches. and of course the regulars...

There are potted flowers on the deck, many red in color, for the stranglers.

Well, that’s presumptuous of me, they know what they are doing.

I’m just tired of the damned woodpecker removing the yellow flowers from the feeder and spilling the sugar water all over the deck, attracting ants and fouling the contents.

I’m done with the feeder.
I’m not ready to put suet out yet, those stellar jays glom it all up.

It’s sunflower seed, and Niger for awhile.
The chickadees are eating the Niger, send some little siskins over here.

There’s a family of wrens in my yard. At least six of them in the current and thimble berry bushes. The other day a little dark eyed junco was sitting on the fence waiting for the dog and I to go back inside so he could resume eating the seed on the ground.
One of those little wrens flew up onto the fence and kept griping and pecking at him. He side stepped down the fence rail a few steps with a puzzled look on his face. But wren persisted. He did not want that junco on the fence. So off flew the junco and the wren went back to chittering and complaining in the thimble berry bush.
Birds.

loved your narrative! I could see it happening -
I still have a few wrens too, and of course the juncos
this evening (monday), at almost dark, I counted 9 hummers!
i still have a female western tanager - she likes the suet block. and a few green tailed towhees.

We still have a migrant stopping by every few days. Every time I see
one feeding, I extend my plan to stop filling the feeder by a week. Guess we'll see.

I walk every day and am outside a lot, I have seen none or not heard any in a week I believe. Going to take sown the feeder in a day or so.
Interesting to me, I have not had any bees at the feeder this season.
