I was there today to drop off a bunch and the ladies at the registers didn't know anything about it.

Kas ~~ This is really odd (and a little frustrating!) as the program has been there for some time now. I'm sorry that this happened. Maybe the cashiers were new employees. The floor staff and manager know the bin is in the back storage area. The manager put up the sign (not small) for recycling twine on the counter in the hardware section located in the back middle of the store. I will have my daughter give them a call and see what can be done. If you'd like to and are in the Richmond Hill area we are happy to take twine off your hands. MtRider ~~ Big R Evergreen has had a blue bin for twine recycling since August 2020. Last time we were there it was conveniently located by the entrance/exit doors. If it is not there please let us know. I hope this helps! |

Thanks! I'll take it tomorrow and let them know the bin is there if they don't.

We save the baling twine to donate, but always hate to "bother" somebody to come take it from us when we visit the Conifer store. Would sure be much more convenient if the Big R Conifer store could also have a bin at the entrance/exit doors.

We have not gotten the impression that it is a bother to them. If that is an issue, let me know. We've always had a great relationship with the store employees. I do know BigR Conifer does not want the bin in the entrance. For whatever reason some stores want it out of sight. I do see both sides. For the recycler, it is easy to just dump it, feeling courteous in not interfering with people in their work day. For the store, the bin can get quite messy looking. For us, we do find a lot of trash/misc. in the bags we pick up from stores that have the bin out in the open. The kids need to wear gloves to sift through it to make sure they are not injured by something that should not be in there. |

Update 11/19/2022
Wow, has it been a long time since this thread was updated. Well, there has been a lot going on the last couple of years as we all know. JeffCo 4-H has held on through the shutdowns and the program has changed up a bit but we continue on! Here's the latest scoop: JeffCo 4-H just sent 3,000 pounds of twine to the recycler! That is 3,000 pounds of plastic not getting tangled in wildlife or sitting in a landfill. Kudos to our community for your continued support and making this happen! A great big THANK YOU goes out to SANGER RANCH for hosting the twine collection bins, and Boulder County Open Space and Cheyenne Mountain Zoo who donated their twine to the 4-H Livestock program. Donations covered transport cost and the recycler paid the program $.17 per pound for a total of $510. The program is going through some changes. My 4-H'er who started the program has aged out and is in college but we hope to stay somewhat involved. Waste-Not is no longer paying the kids for their twine collection, however, the person running the twine recycling program is resilient and is trying to grow the program nationwide. A recycler has been found in MN who makes lawn furniture and other goods out of the twine. A non-profit has been set up to help cover the cost of fuel/transport of the twine and grants are currently being investigated. If you or someone else or a business is interested in helping with this project, or if you would like to participate in a future twine tote packing day (it takes a lot of work to clean & sort!) please PM and I will put you in contact with the right people. Thank you all so much for your support of this program! ![]() ![]() |
