Anybody know somebody local that would recycle or could use an old vinyl waterbed mattress? It has a tiny hole near the filler that lets water seep, so it was replaced with a conventional mattress. Suppose it could be patched or the vinyl would work as a liner for something, but can't really think of anything else.

Do you have kids? When my previous mattress went bad we filled it with air for the grandkids and they had a blast on it..kind of like a trampoline for them. I wonder how it would be on the water, like one of those things you jump on and catapult someone. btw...what size is it?

I think it is the wrong type of plastic for recycling.

But I love the upcycled/repurposed ideas posted.

My old water bed mattress was cut open to be used as a pond liner. But it wasn't big enough and then it was thrown over a wood pile like a tarp. It sure did smell weird when the sun hit it that first year. Then I moved, so not sure how long it lasted in the sun.

I'm sure it ended up in the landfill eventually.

The using it as a tarp idea is appealing-hadn’t thought of that. I think we’ll split it open and see if the baffles can be cut out. Thanks for all the suggestions.

The inside foam came out easily so using the vinyl outside as a tarp was a great idea & makes it less wasteful. Thanks much.

Be careful what you use it for. When I bought my sleep number bed we took apart the waterbed. Even though the heater worked and it had no leaks, the heater, liner and mattress were all melted to each other. If you cover something and it sits in the hot sun it may melt to the item you covered, especially something like a car.
