Oh my gosh it is Sept 11th.
This is the first year since the tragedy that I forgot.
Shame on me.

May we NEVER, NEVER forget.

I saw your post AL and immediately ran out to put up the flag.
That's one of the best photos. Thanks for posting it. What a tear jerker on many levels.
I'm so proud to be an American! :USA:

Other favorite photos of mine are of the search & rescue dog Bretagne. She was amazing!

Here it is:

I still cannot help crying when I remember and mentally picture the people jumping from the high windows to escape being burned; seeing the the horror of this real time, as it was happening, will never leave me.

And going back to New Jersey a month after. Seeing the hundreds of American flags waving on so, so many houses (we drove the minor highways instead of the interstates). And the incredible number of ribbons tied on trees all over New Jersey signifying the death of a loved one in the towers.

How could any human being do this to others, people they never met, didn't know, and had nothing to do with their religious/political agenda? How could they!

I know what you mean. Some of those horrible images have been seared into my soul. That day completely changed my life.

But you know what I also remember, was how incredibly kind people were during the week or so afterwards. Strangers opening doors for you, comments of gratitude/appreciation, people driving more slowly, long cues without complaints, random acts of kindness! It was magical for a very short while.

I remember thinking what if we never forget and from the ashes we become a more tolerant, kind, peaceful nation!
But nope, quickly people became jerks again. :thud:

Well, not all of us. But I know what you mean. At that time we were all Americans, not disparate groups based on things that we should all tolerate about each other, feuding with one another over usually nothing. But there are still many, many good people in this world who remember and who still have that spirit in their hearts.

I've seen that ad dozens of time, and it still chokes me up. What an elegant, touching way to say, "We Will Never Forget!"

Also, never forget Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar's words "... some people did something ..."

While people think like that, it will happen again ...

9/11 was also the day our embassy was attacked in Benghazi 11 years later. It's important we never forget what happened there as well.

...a time for reflection rather than waving flags or rattling sabres.

Rather then? I wave our flag everyday. It went up in earnest after 9/11 and only briefly came down for moves.

The first 9/11 was horrific and I was in NJ at the time and its impact was personal and lasting. I can reflect and raise our flag. I will not forget.

The 9/11 Benghazi attack was not only horrible, it was a travesty. I hold those responsible in seething contempt... and to keep this out of the Study I will say no more then this,

God Bless America, God Bless our first responders and our military. Land of the free because of the brave. :USA:

My bona fides: I am a combat veteran of the Korean War. Upon reflection, I agree with Walt Kelly's Pogo: “We have met the enemy and he is us” I'm sure this will raise the ire of some would be patriots. I have thought more deeply about going to a foreign country and killing their people. We were attacked in WWII. So we responded against those who attacked us and their allies. That was self defense. But the people who committed the 9/11 atrocity were Saudis. Our response has been to kiss up to their rulers and their oil. Saudi Arabia was the first country this president visited. But other presidents were complicit too. I don't get it. And I don't understand Americans killing Americans. But I respect your right to waive the flag.
